World Water Day: Water for Peace

World Water Day is a day set aside by the United Nations to inspire people to sustainably manage the freshwater resources and learn more about water-related issues. This year’s commemoration is under the theme “Leveraging Water for Peace”, celebrated annually on 22 March, to raise awareness and inspire action to tackle the water and sanitation crisis.  According to the UN, 2.2 billion people live without access to safe water. This theme showcases water’s pivotal role in fostering peace, prosperity, and conflict prevention

GRACARO engaged in week-long activities to mark this year’s celebration of the day such as, visiting the Sissia IV community, to locate vulnerable persons, educating and sensitizing them on water sanitation, hygiene, and proper water storage.  Distribution of water storage containers and purification tablets was the main aim of the organization’s visit to the area.

Distribution of Containers to a Physically Challenged

GRACARO visited four persons with water storage containers including aqua tabs (water purification tablets). Part of the activities was to clean the tap, encouraging the young ones to always keep the tap clean. which was a success. The organization also preached to the locals on other modes of purification such as boiling or adding “la croix”to it.

GRACARO posted a notice where inhabitants come to fetch water, educating the locals on the importance of water conservation, water pollution, prevention, and sustainable water management practices.

Hygiene and Sanitation Notice
