The theme for this year draws focus on Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.
This took place on December 3 2024 at the #North West Regional Delegation for Social Affairs.
With the ongoing crises, persons with disability have faced increased vulnerability to violence, displacement and limited access to essential services and economic hardship. This is unacceptable as the challenges they face are significant yet their resilience and determination are ever greater.
This year’s theme resonates deeply with the #UN convention on the rights of persons with Disabilities which explicitly champions equal opportunities and inclusive participation for persons with Disabilities in all aspects of the society. This aligns perfectly with the 2035 Agenda for # Sustainable development which underlines that; Leaving No one Behind requires inclusive leadership at all levels. It is not all about representation but leveraging the unique perspective, skills and talents of persons with disability (PWD) to contribute meaningfully to the development of the nation. Their leadership is not solely about having a seed on the table but reshaping the table itself.

Among the activities carried out were music performance by #Princo titled “New Year” drawing inspiration from God’s abundant blessings and standing for peace. There were also sketches, poem recitation, dance performance by Silence breakers. Then came the Exhibition talent show where work of arts like beads, paintings, bells, flute, groundnut key holder, flutes were demonstrated.
Material support was funded by #UNICEF and #Orange Foundation to some organizations for Persons with Disabilities for their economic empowerment. These materials being: three sewing machines, mannequins, thread, sewing materials, chairs. The organizations that benefited from these needs were Grace Charitable and Rehabilitation Organization -#GRACARO, and #Special Need Entrepreneur Group-SNEG. So as to foster the empowerment decision making of persons with disability to make them leaders everywhere they go and to give them a voice of belonging in the society. The day ended with special awards to some individuals and groups.
