International Day for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Awareness: Promoting Global Peace and Security

GRACARO joins the international community to commemorate The International Day for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Awareness, a day set aside by the United Nations to raise awareness about the urgent need for disarmament and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

Commemorating this day and promoting non-proliferation of weapons in the context of the ongoing anglophone crisis in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon is crucial for fostering peace and promoting vulnerable populations in our communities. It is an opportunity to raise awareness about the devastating impacts of weapons on communities and advocate for diplomatic solutions to the conflicts.

Celebrated every year on the 5th of March, it serves as a reminder of the importance of achieving a world free from the threat of nuclear weapons and other deadly armaments. By promoting peace and security, this observance highlights the collective responsibility of nations to work towards disarmament, reduce the risk of conflict, and foster a safer world for all.

GRACARO paid a one-day visit to the disarmament office in Bamenda, Up Station where they were opportune to meet the chief of center for Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR), Mr. Kum Henry Ichu where they had a one-on-one discussion about the day. To him, it is important to commemorate the day, as a way to educate the public about the dangers of nuclear weapons given that the anglophone crisis has led to the introduction of arms which is disastrous.
