In an attempt to keep the organization growing and running at a fast pace and also to help young graduates gain some practical experience, GRACARO launched a call for application for volunteering. A candidate pre-selected for the position of a grant writer was interviewed successfully. This was at the GRACARO head office on Saturday April 27 2024.
It was a one-on-one interaction between the jury who are staff of the organization and the candidate. The interviewee gave a brief introduction about himself and why he wants to volunteer. The top reason was to bring about change in the community and gain experience which ties with the vision of GRACARO.
Other issues discussed were; level of commitment, availability and motivations amongst others.
This position is of utmost importance to the organization. It is through grant writing that the organization would be able to get funding. The candidate has the passion to serve humanity. To get more into grant writing so as to get funders to come into the community to satisfy the needs of the population is what he aspires to do. He believes in working with the team to build the organization. If we work hand in hand, we can get to the top. As a trained access officer, he aims to find out the key stakeholders in any interior community he has been assigned to go for field work, then see how to engage.
As the interview unfolded, he remarked the hospitality of the staff of GRACARO and how they welcomed him.
The main purpose according to him is to have a family with a driving passion of serving humanity
Interviewing volunteers has been seen to be an essential step in building a dedicated and effective team for the organization as this has been able to work well for the pioneer batch of volunteers who took mandate in January till present. By following these strategies, we can be sure of selecting volunteers who are passionate, committed, and aligned with the organization’s goals. A well-executed interview session sets the stage for successful hiring decisions and fosters a positive candidate experience.
